SWIMMING
The Winter Season at the Peakhurst West indoor pool is underway and there have been no complaints about the warmer water.
Our touring team competed at North's Carnival in February with Brian Sach finishing second in the 50m Handicap and the Team fourth in the Relay.
At the Balmain Leagues Carnival in March a team of three, Arthur Mattingly, Jorn Jacobson and Brian Sach competed as the 10 a-side Relay Team and gained second place to Norths.
The Championship winners for the 2004- 2005 season were the following:
Winter: 50m championship: Julie Costello; Summer: 50m championship: Julie Costello; Overall Championship: Julie Costello; Sprint championship: Margaret Black; 100m championship: Brian Sach; 200m championship: Mark Slough; Swimmer of the Year: Julie Costello; Jack Dowell Trophy: Margaret Black; Russ Blatch Trophy: Kerry Hammell; Ken Jenkins Trophy: Mark Madison; Reg White Trophy: Justin Fitzsimmons; Bernie Hart Memorial Trophy: Brian Sach.
The most noteworthy performance of 2004-2005 was that of Julie Costello, who besides winning the Swimmer of the Year Championship also won the three major 50m championships, a feat not repeated since the intrepid and urbane Don Stanton won all three 50m championships back in 1994-1995.
Our Annual General Meeting was held in May and Julie Costello was elected as President and Ian Bourke as Vice President.
The other officers' elected were:
Secretary: Arthur Mattingly; Treasurer: Kerry Hammell; Captain: Warren Bradley; Handicapper: Gordon Carr; Registrar: Brian Sach; Starter: Dave Walker; Judge: John Harlum and Social Secretary: Robyn Willmette.
At the AGM Brian Berrett announced that he was stepping down as Treasurer after a record 20 years of consecutive service.
He handed the books over to Kerry Hammell.
We are indeed indebted to you, Brian, for the many years that you so expertly handled the job as Treasurer, and our Club finances, and we are sincerely grateful for your dedication and we wish you all the very best for the future.
As always, the welcome mat is out for all St George Leagues Club Members who wish to come and swim with the Water Dragons on a Wednesday evening.
