The inaugural St George Day festival was held late in April, and is likely to become an annual fixture.
The event, organised by the Hurstville Lions Club and held at Penshurst Park, showcased an array of activities including sacred Aboriginal dancing, international food stalls, Greek Dancing, NSW Fire brigade safety demonstrations and sporting exhibitions.
Lugarno resident Patrick Cordova used the event to continue his photographic history of the St George region.
"I work at Hurstvillle council," Cordova said. "And I am a part of a group that is photographing the St George Local area community for an exhibition that is happening."
"It is basically to photograph the St George area to keep records for future generations. For historical purpose I hope to record as much of the day as possible," he said.
Frank Zhou, 40, rushed home to fetch his camera to take images of the Aboriginal dancing. "The Aboriginal dancing was very interesting," the Penshurst resident said. "I have seen it before but I am still amazed."
Event organiser Anton Bregovic said the highly successful festival was likely to become an annual event. "It's just about celebrating a united bigger and stronger community," he said. |
