LAWN BOWLS REPORT
1 November 2003

On Saturday 6 September we had a visit from the Balmain Blind Bowlers, who were led by Don Griffith.

It was a beautiful sunny day and after some very good bowling from both teams, we all adjourned to theclubhouse for refreshments and social activities.

We look forward to our blind friends returning.

Our Sunday morning games with Kogarah RSL Outdoor Bowling Club have ceased until sometime in the future, due to the passing of their President and the lack of members to form a committee.

We have had visits from the Kangaroo valley Bowling Club led by their President Laurie Jones, who brought a very strong team of players and won back the trophy after a very enjoyable day.

The NSW Taxis Club, led by their President Frank Ryan, also stole a win from us when they visited.

We had a visit from the Illawarra Catholic Club led by President Dovolas Clift and it was St George's turn to win.

Afterwards we all adjourned to the Clubhouse for social activities and a nice lunch prepared by the committee.

The Annual General Meeting of the Men's Bowling Club was held on Thursday, 18 September 2003, and the 2002-03 Committee was returned.

In the Outdoors Bowls Club Championships on 28 August the Finals of the Mixed Pairs Championship were and won by M McEvoy and O Banksy from A Cudlipp (substituting for J Burgess) and M Bland.

Results from the Finals of the Mixed Fours were: R O'Dea, M Winkley, M Bland and P Stapleton (19) beat B Mackie, J Kifford, F Fisher and J Landon (18).

In a fiercely fought game and a nail-biting finish, all players are to be congratulated for their efforts.

In the Minor Singles Alvyn Watson won.

Brian McDonald deceased; game not played.

In the Finals of the Major Singles, there was a reversal of last yearís winner and runner-up: O Bansky (31) beat J Landon (28).

Either players could have won up to the last end.

The Men's Pairs Final results were: J Landon and R Craven beat F Fisher and O Banksy.

All Club Members will regret the passing of one of our popular players of many years, Vivian Turner, who will be sadly missed.

Ray Grierson and Keith Short are on the sick list and we hope to see them playing again soon.

We wish all others on the sick list and early recovery and hope to see you back at the Club soon.

RP Publicity Officer.
