Former St George captain CRAIG YOUNG
replaced his prop forward partner,
ROBERT STONE, in a bitter-sweet appointment
to the Leagues Club Board last year.

Mr Young was elected to the Board last year
following the 2005 death of Mr Stone.

The former police officer brings invaluable
hospitality industry experience to the Leagues
Club Board after owning and operating the
Unanderra Hotel west of Wollongong for the
past 19 years.

"It was very overwhelming because Stoneyand I were pretty
close mates and it was under tragic circumstances
(I was elected),''Mr Young told the Journal
.
"So I think overwhelming is the word."

The Publican said the Club industry still faced
tough challenges in exacting a fairer taxation
system from the State Government.

"In business life I have been involved in the
hospitality industry nearly 19 years, so I'm
across all the latest legislation and laws in the
hospitality trade," he said.

"We are still not out of the woods with the
extra taxation issues.

"It's still on the table and still hurting clubs
and that's something we have got to deal with
and to get more equity in."

Mr Young promised members and guests
more entertainment value courtesy of the
outdoor entertainment area currently under
construction.

"That obviously has been forced on us for the
smokers, but it will add a bit more to the club
than that," he said.

"It adds a new dimension, and with the extra
space and decor the members should be very
happy with the outcome."
