6 TEAMS IN THE 2007 SPRING PENNANT COMPETITION
5 November 2007

The club has entered 6 teams in the 2007 Spring Pennant competition. They are A5, B3, two C1 teams, C3 and C4. At  present our B3 team of Mark Ireland (Capt.), Ian Jacobs, David Armstrong, Paul Coggiola, Mickey Bek and Chewy Lim are leading their comp. Paul Wright's C1 team also consisting of Gerald Walz, Rohit Autar, Bill Fountas and Brian Pisani are at present coming second.

The last 2007 Autumn Comp was a combination of both success and major disappointment. We had 9 teams entered in the various grades, our largest participation for many years.

We had our B1 team make it as far as the preliminary final and 5 teams A2, B4, B5, C2 and C4 making it to the grand final in their respective grade. This may also be some kind of record for the club. But alas, to the immense disappointment of all teams competing, all went down on the night that mattered most!

A2 went down to a very strong South Sydney Juniors team 3 rubbers to 1. Our best performer here was Viv Beri who won his match 3-0. B4 went down 3 rubbers to 1, again against a strong Bulldogs side. Paul Coggiola was our best performer here with a 3-0 win.

Our B5 team was defeated by a very committed, young and well coached Engadine side. They were simply just too good on the night.

Our C2 side was always going to be doing it tough with the loss of Rohit Autar before the grand final with chicken pox. Because of this, everyone had to play up which made it all the more difficult to win. Mike Damcevski kept the result interesting for a while with a good 3-1 win.

C4 went down to a very committed Engadine side even though they were the minor premiers.

At the present time the round robin standings are as follows: Rohit Autar leads on 25.5 points from Doug MacFarlane on 21 points and Peter Lupevski third on 15.5 points.

On a final note anyone wishing to join the club can make enquiries by contacting Peter Lupevski either by e-mail at Plupevski@ryde.nsw.gov.au or phone 0408 462659 or 99528217.

Till next time.
Good squashing everybody!
Brian Pisani
