The dress regulations at the Leagues club in 2007 are a far cry from what they were 40 years ago. For those members and visitors who think they are a tough today, here are a few extracts from the dress rules printed in the August 1967 journal:

• Coat collar and tie must be worn in the dining room and throughout the first floor at all times
• After 7pm shorts are permitted on the ground floor provided full length hose is warn
• Ladies are not permitted to wear thongs, sandals or half scuffs at any time
• Ladies are not permitted in the club with shorts or with bare midriffs
• After 7pm, ladies will not be admitted wearing slacks or similar apparel
• Members in reasonable working attire may use the Members' bar and games room but are not permitted elsewhere
• Members in casual dress can also assist in maintaining our standards by not congregating with others in more formal attire in the foyer
