DANCE CLUB REPORT
12 November 2007

At the last meeting, the Commitee was re-formed with Albert Oh returning as President and Allan Bow as Vice President. Our thanks to Ivan Stanborough, who wished to retire as vicepresident, after giving 25 years of his time. Nevertheless, he will continue to be an active committee member.

Other committee members are:
Secretary: Elizabeth Stanborough, Treasurer: Bobby Tang, Assistant Treasurer: Sally Ong, Publicity Officer: Rhonda Lee, Assistant Publicity Officer: Saras Ho-Shon, Sports Council Representative: Percy Higgins, Function Co-Ordinator: Fae Wilson, Assistant Function Co-Ordinator: Shirley O'Reilly. Also making up the team are Nancy Oh, Beryl Bow, Frank Wilson, Joseph Ho-Shon, and Kor Lee.

Our year began with so many great events, including Chinese New Year, St. Patrick's Day, Easter, Mothers' Day and Fathers' Day - each celebrated in a special way with sandwiches provided for supper.

In June, we welcomed back ex-members Sean and Marje who were visiting from Queensland. They introduced a cheeky, but simple new sequence, 'The Sunshine Cha' to our teachers Albert & Nancy who, in turn, instructed our dancers with impromptu lessons. This dance was quickly learnt by all.

Christmas in July was celebrated twice. On the Monday night at Kogarah RSL, 140 dancers braved the cold to celebrate and dance to the music of the regular five-piece live band. At St George Leagues Club, 95 dancers attended a buffet dinner with dancing and music provided by Albert and Nancy.

Our Congratulations go to Life Member Percy Higgins and his wife Gladys on their 68th Wedding Anniversary - and to Gladys, who celebrated her 90th birthday this year.

Social dance is held at Kogarah RSL, 254 Railway Pde, Kogarah every Monday night from 7 pm to 10.30pm, except for public holidays. The social dance program is changed every week. A free half hour lesson on many and varied sequence dances are given by Albert & Nancy Oh from 7pm to 7.30pm for beginners/revision. Entry is free and tea, coffee, cheese and biscuits are provided.

There is also a raffle draw for a chance to win any or all of five $15 prizes. The $50 jackpot for the Monte Carlo at the end of the dance program was won at the end of July by two lucky dancers.

Our next major event for the year will be Xmas, so until then, happy dancing.

Rhonda Lee.
