The club has entered 6 teams in the 2008 Sydney Autumn Pennant competition. Again we have teams of all standards competing. The old A, B and C Grades have now been replaced by Divisions. There are now 13 Divisions in our district and we have teams entered in Divisions 3, 5, 7, 10, 11 and 13.
With only 4 rounds to go before the finals, the club has been performing really well. We have at least 4 teams with a great chance of making the finals. Our Division 3 team made up of Sid Mir (Capt), Gabriel Di Matta, Doug McFarlane and Viv Beri have really been performing exceptionally well and are leading their comp by 46 points! On present form they should be able to go all the way and win their comp. Our Division 5 team of Anthony Burke, Rod Dale, Joe Dundovic, Andrew Clarke (Capt), Peter Lupevski and Daryl Curtis are coming 2nd only 14 points behind the leaders Roselands and are also in with a great chance of winning their comp. Paul Wright's Division 10 team of Rohit Autar, Brian Pisani, Gerald Walz, Bill Fountas and Emmanuel Koungras are leading a very evenly fought competition. They were able to beat Bulldogs in the last round to take over the top spot. Our Division 13 team of Tan Bui, Louis Mesaros, Adam D'Apice, George Keir (Capt), George Metry and Mal McKenzie are at present in 3rd place and also with a good chance of making the finals.
I would also like to welcome Andrew Wheeler, John Richardson (Capt), Jason Kwok and Kevin Fung. They with David Skrzypek make up our Division 11 team and at present are coming 4th only 23 points behind the top three teams. This team has great potential to do well in the future with a good combination of youth and the experience of John and David to guide them.
Our monthly handicapped Round Robin competition is well under way. At the present time Peter Lupevski leads on 8.5 points from Doug MacFarlane on 8 points, Chewy Lim on 7 points and Richard Chen on 6.5 points. Points gained by players during the monthly competitions are added together to eventually decide our annual champion after the November round robin.
On behalf of all the players in the club I would like to thank our two major sponsors the St. George Leagues Club for their ongoing support and also the Day-Night Chemist Ramsgate for donating the prizes for the Round Robin competition. This support is very much appreciated by all of us at the Squash Club.
On a final note, anyone interested in joining our club and playing "Comp Squash" should contact Peter Lupevski either by e-mail at Plupevski@ryde.nsw.gov.au or phone 0408462659. So until next time, good squashing everybody!
