Friendship day on 23 September was a great day of bowling with so many friends from other clubs.
The Club fielded two teams for the St George Central District Gala Day on October 3.
As the district is now joining with Canterbury- St George this was the last official function held.
Our new district is now St George-Canterbury, retaining the names of both districts.
Once again we invited the men's club and their friends to our Melbourne Cup Day with sausages and salad for lunch.
It is great to see so many of the men joining with us on these days.
The final of the Club Fours was our last competition for the year and resulted in Beryl Mackie, Noreen Stewart, Florence Smith and Claudene Wood being the winners, with Ada Griffith, Beryl Jordan, Vi Metcalfe and Jean Anderson the runners up.
Our club yearly outing on 25 November was to the Bellbird Resort at Avoca with the weather being very kind to us during a pleasant coach trip up after days of continuous rain.
Christmas Presentation Day on 9 December ended a busy year and what a wonderful ending with 50 ladies and men enjoying a great lunch after a morning of bowls.
A special surprise was given to our treasurer of 15 years when Claudene Wood was made a Life member of the club, an honour richly deserved.
We have had several members on the sick list, Vi Metcalfe, Jean Cole, Rose Nichols and Jill Mahardy but great to know they are all on the mend.
After Claudene's presentation the trophies for the year's club events were given out by our president and the patron's trophy donated by Lola English was again won by Anne Short.
For the St George Hospital Trauma and Retrieval Unit we raised $1400 with spiders and donations through the year, and as in previous years we collected gifts for the Salvation Army to be distributed for Christmas.
This year Mayor Morton's wife accepted these as Major Morton was in hospital.
Mrs Morton spoke to us of the meaning of Christmas and its message of sharing and thinking what our gifts mean to the children we give to.
Father Christmas again visited us and led our singing as well as being photgraphed with our caterers and trophy winners.
To finish the day our raffle was drawn and Jim McAuliffe won a giant hamper, Kath Magee a ham, Jo Phibbs a Christmas cake and Alvin Watson a case of beer.
Thanks to all who made such a wonderful day possible and best wishes to everyone for a happy Christmas.
Once again we invite all new members to join us in 2004 for our Tuesday games.
Secretary Margaret McEvoy can be contacted on 9588 6091 for more information.
A warm welcome can be assured from our friendly ladies.
