The 2003 Spring Pennant proved to be a successful comp for our top A5 side.
Although leading the competition throughout, the Grand Final against Padstow was still not going to be a walkover.
After winning the toss, Peter Lupevski, our no four, went on first against Mick "the marathon runner".
Peter had a shaky start and lost the first two sets, but came storming back to win the next three.
Gabriel Di Mattia at no.
1 had a very tough match against the very argumentative Dave.
Unfortunately he just went down 16-17 in the first set and in the end was beaten 3-0 in a tough match.
Greg McKay, our no.
2, started slowly and went down in the first set before winning the next three.
Andrew Clarke had to win the final match to make sure of the championship and after a few scares came back from behind to win 3-2.
Congratulations boys and also to other team members Doug McFarlane and Daryl Curtis.
Daryl Curtis (29 points) won the annual round robin title from Frank Bortolotti (28), Dave York (24) and Chewy Lim (23).
It was very close all year.
I would like to thank our sponsors Dennis Crawley from Wheels tyre service at Rockdale, the Day-Night Chemist Ramsgate and of course the Leagues Club.
Finally, anyone wishing to join the squash club should contact Peter Lupevski on 9952 8217 or 0408 462 659.
All the best and good squashing! Brian Pisani |
